Prequel to the Knight and Spy series AKAS 1403

I know many of you have been asking for more from my A Knight and a Spy series. As always, I’m mindful of avoiding repetition or becoming formulaic, while also waiting for the right moment in history—one rich enough in drama and intrigue to bring a compelling story to life.

The Battle of Shrewsbury is one I have long wanted to write about. At first, I felt it came too early in the timeline, but on reflection I realised it offered the perfect opportunity to introduce a younger Jamie, alongside many familiar faces from the later books. You’ll meet a youthful Earl of Warwick—something of a “dude” in his day—who plays a central role, as well as a 16-year-old Prince Hal and the charismatic Hotspur Percy. And, of course, Jamie is there too, woven into real historical events in a tale of thrilling “faction.”

The story builds to one of the most pivotal moments in medieval English history: the Battle of Shrewsbury itself, along with the dramatic events leading up to it. But this is more than a battle story. Dynasties were shaped, and the fate of the realm decided on that fateful day in 1403—events whose echoes were felt for years to come.

During my research, I visited the battlefield, and it’s a place where history truly comes alive in the mind’s eye. I also saw Warwick’s tomb, where his effigy is depicted in a remarkably detailed replica of his armour, alongside his impressive jousting helm—weighing in at around 16 lbs. Quite something to behold!

I’m delighted to say the book is nearly complete and is now available for pre-order, with a release date of 21st May. I’ve had enormous fun researching and writing this story, and I very much hope you’ll enjoy it too.
